>Summary: Can\'t connect 2 my Y! account behind http proxy, port 3128

Initial Comment:

Since today my connection here in my office changed
from direct connection to one behind an http proxy,
port 3128. I reconfigured my yahoo account, specifying
IP, port, user and pass of the new http proxy (only
3128 is open), but I can't connect. However, Y!
messenger connects with the new configuration.

Is there any problem with gaim and yahoo protocol, when
connecting through an http proxy? How must I config my
account? I'm using gaim 1.1.0. Please, help me, because
I don't want to use Y! messenger anymore, just gaim and

This bug is fixed in the most recent version of Gaim. If you are
not using the lastest version, please upgrade. If you are using
the latest version, please indicate so and reopen this bug.

Unfortunately, the real solution to this would be to modify
the Yahoo! plugin to support (optionally) the Yahoo! HTTP
protocol. This would allow people with very restrictive
proxy servers (those that only allow destinations on ports
80 and 443, like Motorola) to still connect to their Yahoo!

A checkbox in the Yahoo! Account screen that says 'Use HTTP
Connections' and defaults the pager port value to 80 when
selected would be very cool.

Not sure how hard it would be to support this. Does the
underlying Yahoo! protocol library already support the HTTP
version of the pager protocol?

Just a generic idea: have you tried to set the pager port
(advanced account options) to 23? Most policies allow port
23 traffic.

Connecting to the proxy is one thing, connecting through the
proxy to port 3128 is another thing all together. The latter
probably won't work, i don't think yahoo has that port open.
It doesn't matter at all what your http proxy port is (as
long as its the right port for your network).

Make sure your yahoo pager port isn't set to 80, as I've
learned there's an ugly hack that connects using an http
proxy on port 80 are assumed to be speaking http, which lets
them talk to the proxy easier.

It could be that your proxy doesn't allow connect. Some
might only allow it on port 443, you could try changing the
yahoo pager port to that and see if it helps, although I
don't remember if yahoo allows connections on that port or not.

What would really help would be if we implemented yahoo's
http method, then gaim could talk to yahoo through an http
proxy the same way a web browser talks to a website, and no
one would know the difference.
