Do you need to care? Would (apparently) duplicated font files be such a
big deal?

Yes, it would be a minor* waste of time scanning directories multiple
times. But this is controlled by the Fontconfig setup anyway; why not
leave it up to the user/admin to make sure those “shadow” directories
aren’t among the scanned paths?

*I say “minor” because the files would already be in the filesystem
cache from the first scan.
