This is normanl when you check for optional files or resources.
You try open something and if not there you move on.

nmcli gets into a conversation with dbus and that is about it.  OTOH
what do you expect if you are running "nm wakeup" command?  One
would think that you will be more interested what is possibly
happening when you are trying to bring up and down an interface in
question.  Not that this will necessarily make you any wiser but you
may try.  Likely a good idea first to use nmcli to get as much
information as possible to see what NM thinks about that connection
and its device you have problems with.  You do not have to post all
results; especially if they do not look so relevant.
