I have seen that before and a while ago I even posted on that
list describing the situation.  Nobody offered any insights.
That was happening only with yum in use; using rpm directly
to install the kernel in question worked fine.  This happened
more than once.

OTOH after 'rpm --rebuilddb' the problem so far disappeared.
The test installation does not have any 'i?86' packages
so it was not possible to remove something of that kind.
