If you're going to play silly games with tiny filesystems, make sure
things like /var(/cache) are suitably big enough to handle things like
large package upgrades where all the rpms are cached until the
transaction can be ran.

Maybe the default partitioning schema needs reviewing.

Create a separate  /var partition with enough  disk space ..
