Sorry for the late response!

The ugly way allowed the driver to compile and install. I did have to
manually enter "nouveau" in it manually.
Well, it's not done automatically, because standard xorg.conf in FC6
does not have Section "Module" and nouveau-config-display can't handle
this situation.
As a workaround you can add this into you xorg.conf:
Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "glx"
Load "dri"
EndSection
Without it I don't know how to stop loading "dri" module by X server.
The server dies as depicted by this freedesk bug.
This problem is explained here →
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/InstallNouveau Right now driver has
to load dri module on its own. When it will be fixed -- I don't know.
Developers now have more interesting work to finish (context switching,
etc.) ;-)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=7470
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8710
I'm not sure whether it's the proper place to report bugs. nouveau
developer != nv developers ;-) Did you post this links on #nouveau on
irc.freenode.net?
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8710#c6 -- this can be
caused by still not fixed drm module (card initialization part). You can
only once run X server. Next run will crash your box. As a temporary
solution you have to unload and load drm kernel module.
You can always subscribe to this page to be informed about updates. :)
If I can figure it out.
You have to first create account on nouveau.freedesktop.org wiki. Then
you will be able to subscribe to this page (button in the right, upper
corner).
Hope that helps,
Dawid
