When you run "vncserver", you will get the behaviour you observe.  If
instead you enable the "vncserver" service, i.e.:

  chkconfig vncserver on

then you will see the behaviour you desire.

The patch was for the vncserver service -- sorry, I'd misread that you
weren't using it.
