That does not work at all now. 100 numbers is way too little for vendor. A big reasons UIDs are not the same across distros for example is they need to manage this sparse resource, so they can not preallocate an UID when it's used in another distro - they have to reserve this space to the main products they ship. Even if after a few years the same product is adopted by everyone, each distro will by then have reallocated a different hole in its 100 range to it. -- Nicolas Mailhot
