Although I do not agree that having it implies you support it per se. You allow it if people want to go there. And people have successfully upgrade from RH 7.3 and RH 9 to RHEL 3, likewise people are upgrading FC to RHEL 4 with only minor adaptations. Also, with smart package managers (that can prioritize repositories) it might become unnecessary in the future to have it. If the disttag will only contain 'rh9', 'fc1' or 'el3' and be used for conditionals, can we consider using %{dist} instead of %{disttag} ?
