Reading through the CCRMA documentation here:

It looks like the kernel and jack for F17 are built for "proper
realtime priority". What am I missing. Is there something
I need to do beyond being a member of "jackuser" in order to
operate with acceptable xruns?
I think I'll go back to the old system for a while, until I can
get this figured out.

Some more info on your soundcard and the desktop you are running?
If you are running KDE make sure to turn off desktop effects
(Alt-Shift-F12). If you have a wireless card that is not in use make
sure to turn it off (and blacklist in /etc/modprobe.d/ if it will stay
that way)
