Hey everyone,

I'm pleased to announce that Lugaru 1.1 has been released by the OSS
Lugaru project[1], which among many improvements from the original
open source release in 2010, now has the game content licensed under a
Creative Commons license. David Rosen from Wolfire agreed to relicense
all assets under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license[2], and other mods that we
added to the main tree are licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and 4.0.

You can read the full release notes and download the source tarball here[3].

## About upstream / OSS Lugaru

Note that this OSS Lugaru group on GitLab is the same upstream as the
project that was hosted on Bitbucket[4]. In particular, Côme Chilliet
(MCMic) and myself are on the team, and we have a new addition in the
form of Rémi Verschelde, a developer in the Godot engine project and a
long-time contributor to Mageia with packaging a wide variety of games
and other software.

We chose to migrate from Mercurial and Bitbucket to Git and GitLab as
we're more familiar with Git nowadays, and want to support the
development of the libre GitLab CE (though we are using GitLab.com and
not a self-hosted instance, but that's a first step). For the moment,
we are still using BitBucket for hosting release tarballs[5], but the
updated, canonical sources are on GitLab.

## Fedora packaging

As Remi and I are packagers (in Mageia and Fedora, respectively), we
focused on making the game packager-friendly. The game data file
lookup is now configurable at build-time, defaulting to
`/usr/share/lugaru` if the build is configured for system-wide install
(as opposed to portable run mode, which is the default).

We also provide a .desktop file, an appdata/metainfo file, an icon and
a man page, as well as explicit documentation about the license of
every file.

I have submitted a review request for including Lugaru in Fedora[6].
I'd greatly appreciate a prompt and speedy review.

Feel free to get in touch with us (all OSS Lugaru developers are in
CC) if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Neal Gompa

Wow, this is awesome news! Thanks for all of the hard work in putting this together. I might have something to help entertain me during the holiday season!
