But the way those macros had to be injected into rpm's config so that
they were actually visible anywhere was plain ugly [0], would have
disappeared when the rpm or foo-rpm-config package was updated etc, so I
don't think that's something that should be used as an example for
anything but rather should be just forgotten.

[0] In-place modification of non-%config rpmrc's here and there IIRC
