I'm aware of it, but have never managed to actually make it work.  The
process appears quite brittle to me.  I tried multiple versions of gcc
with multiple versions of newlib, no configuration built cleanly.
Therefore we went for the -bootstrap approach.  Though I don't profess
to be an expert on gcc.
