In order to reconcile "safety first" and technical progress one should consider sticking to Xaw build for F8 and F7 and adopting a single Xaw3d build for F9/rawhide.
Other distros have been using Xaw3d [which must have been around for more than a decade now] as standard widget library for xfig for a while already without any particular problems.
Okay,
I've enough input now, both with Xaw3d the default for rawhide and newer it
will be.
If anyone disagrees he is free to ask Than to become xfig co-maintainer and
make whatever changes he/she pleases once he/she is co-maintainer.
