Is AIGLX going to appear on FC5? I've test it with ATI RADEON 7000, with all the hacks that's on the wiki page, and it's too dam slow....

Some of the pieces are already integrated. See the section on technical details for the current status. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RenderingProject/aiglx. Since the features are not enabled by default, yet performance shouldnt be much of a concern for FC5. Reports with hardware details and benchmarks would be quite useful to fine tune it I guess.

Is the integrated compositing manager in metacity also supposed to work with the "regular" Xorg shipped with FC5 (ie as a replacement for xcompmgr) or only with the AIGLX enabled version?

The regular Xorg server is getting all the patches for AIGLX merged into it. Meanwhile the compositing manager is metacity can work in tandem or without it.

When I turn on the compositing manager using the gconf-editor my desktop goes completely ballistic. The moment click the checkbox metacity restarts itself over and over again and the only way to get things back to normal is to switch to a text console, wait a few seconds for metacity to give up and then switch back to X11, uncheck the compositing_manager key again. After that I'm left without window decorations which can be fixed by restarting metacity manually again. The xcompmgr I compiled from CVS works fine though.

  Dennis
