Changes were made in the build (upstream) that caused the soname to be
libmagma.1.0.0 instead of libmagma.1.0 (this should be fixed in magma-1.0.3).

I'd say they should indeed : That "workaround" doesn't work for 64bit
archs... and doing something like "test %{_lib} = lib64" or
enumerating all known 64bit archs is oh so ugly :-)
I was taking a look at magma for someone, and the problem isn't with the
libraries, it's with the test apps. For some reason they're requiring
the libraries with .so even though the .so.SONAME libraries are there. I
suspect that the build process might be copying the built libraries
instead of linking them.
