It wasn't done as a proper upgrade in Rawhide. There was no effort done to reconcile all the reverse dependencies, and there was no announcement of the soname bump. That was why it was reverted. Once it's good and done in Fedora, we can also announce an upgrade for EPEL and introduce a compat package for IM6 at the same time.
