setting initial hostname and volume names

Changing the subject because I've caused the thread to drift from the change
proposal... :)

I don't think hostname is the best choice for volume name anyway. The
initial hostname might change after install --
`fedora_dhcp-192-168-5-45-home` isn't very useful. Let alone the case where
it gets named "fedora_localhost-live"!

Are there other reasons to do it that early? If not, I think maybe the
solution here is to change from using the hostname to using something like
mount point plus a random (first 8 of the UUID?).
