I know it's problematic when you run Fedora VM on non-fedora Xen host if you use pvgrub/pygrub - in that case it uses host's grub to parse guest grub.cfg and load the actual kernel. But I'm pretty sure there are other problematic cases too.
... not to speak of the xen problems with kernel images not able to run on the xen host, due to recent changes in structures from one major kernel version to another.
