"getting into the way" IMO includes "doesn't show up on the serial
console".

Both sd-boot and grub2 are doing fine here, the standard uefi text
console works on both vga and serial line.  Anything doing something
fancy on the framebuffer is problematic here ...

PS: yes, you can configure grub2 to do fancy graphics, but fedora
    doesn't do that by default.
