It gathers up the packages you will need to do the upgrade, then reboots into a very minimal env and uses yum to do the upgrade. The difference is that since it's in a minimal env, you don't have possible problems with running processes, and you can make changes that would otherwise not be possible to a running system. If you use and like yum dist upgrades on running systems, thats great. However, fedup is more safe since it's not happening on a running system. kevin
