I like journalctl, it gives good info.

but as a test do:
echo | journalctl -x --no-pager --since-today | mailx -s "Today's
Journal" user (real isp email ) 

then do: 
cat /var/log/messages | mailx -s "/var/log/messages" user (real isp
email )

for me it was:
Journalctl in calws-mail inbox: 5.47mb
/var/log/messages in claws-mail inbox .58mb
