Current auto-detection methods don't rely on doing _anything_ to xorg.conf. The only thing I can think of that would poke it is livna-config-display , which comes from RPM Fusion. Did something create an incorrect monitor section? Was there no monitor section and that didn't work? What goes wrong exactly?
