They both suffer from the same problem -- new packages may cause
changes in data that are not reversibly compatible with the old
package, and mere package rollback is not useful.
Sorry, I didn't say your idea was dismissed. Just more complicated b/c of
all the space the user has to allocate to it.
There's no perfect.
we're just going for 'good enough', really.
