well with recent distro desktop envirenments.
But I am not expert on modern desktop concepts (otherwise I had to
ask why e.g. policykit exists and why it uses _javascript_ for policy
definitions...)

Would like to know what these things are when/if you remember them.
I now test on pclinuxos(kde),fedora( gnome3),ubuntu(unity),opensuse(gnome3) and i have a user testing it on archlinux(openbox) and i am not aware of any problem as things work as i intend them to.
