Imho the major advantage of LVM over dmcrypt is, that you will only need
one password. In case where your / is encrypted, you enter your password
once during boot and are done.
On the other hand dmcrypt over LVM needs one key per LVM volume that is
encrypted - if you use luks and use your desktop environments
integration this is not too bad either.
I think it's a matter of personal taste.

Hi,
I've a Debian unstable installation on my laptop with dmcrypt over LVM. I
was thinking about a reinstallation because I would like to change
partition geometry of my hard disk. Different guides suggest the two
approaches in subject.
Which one do you think is better? And why?
I would like to use the faster one, my crypto need are quite basic: I
would avoid that someone stealing my laptop gets access to all my data
and password.
Thanks a lot, d.
