Additional Information about this behaviour: The described error occurs at kernel 2.6.17 when using *initrd* at the command: exec chroot . /bin/sh and when using *initramfs* at the command: exec switch_root /new-root /sbin/init So it must be a problem in conjunction with dm-crypt and then issuing a chroot-alike command under kernel 2.6.17.
