Hi!

Besides "Applied Cryptography", check out "The handbook of applied
cryptography" which can be found
completely online under http://www.cacr.math.uwaterloo.ca/hac/. Things like
ecb,cbc, block ciphers, hash functions, etc are explained in depth. A good
starting point is also the FAQ of RSA (found at
http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/faq/index.html).
