difference between cryptoapi to cryptoapi2

Hi,

Can someone explain me the difference between cryptoapi and cryptoaip2 ? Is cryptoapi2 version is extension of cryptoapi ? Is cryptoapi version a stand alone patch or it needs the cryptoapi?
