Yes, vms and volumes existed across the ceph releases.  But the vms were rebooted and the volumes reattached following the upgrade.  The vms were all Ubuntu 14.04  before and after the upgrade.

Do you by any chance have old clients connecting? I saw this after a Jewel upgrade as well and it was because of very old clients still connecting to the cluster.
