I tried running:
ceph-deploy install --dev=wip-cuttlefish-ceph-disk HOST
To a clean system, and just after I ran:
ceph-deploy install ceph11 (Which worked without error.)
and in both cases, ceph-deploy failed with the output:
#ceph-deploy install --dev=wip-cuttlefish-ceph-disk ceph11
OK

I am seeing issues with ceph-deploy and ceph-disk, which it calls, if
the storage devices are not generic sdx devices. On my older HP

not verbose enough to figure out what is going on.
This is fixed in next but not yet backported to cuttlefish. Can you
please test wip-cuttlefish-ceph-disk?
ceph-deploy install --dev=wip-cuttlefish-ceph-disk HOST
will get it onto your machine. I don't have access to any machines
with
the cciss devices (or anything else that is /dev/foo/bar) and it's been
difficult to find users to test this.
Thanks!

Even for an eval system, I am finding ceph-deploy is not an easy tool
to use.
Too bad ceph-deploy is so buggy, as it is hyped in the Inktank
cuttlefish install video and in all the new docs as the tool to use.

Hi,
Same issue here about disk list, it doesn't list all available
disks and output some bogus information.
Also had some problems with ceph-deploy osd create which I
guess
uses some code from osd prepare. Same thing about the temporary
directory.
After re-trying the command 3-4 times it finally get through.
Maybe it needs some delays here and there to wait for the device
to become ready... Dunno.
Cheers,
S?bastien

I'm seeing quite a few errors with ceph-deploy that makes me
wonder if the tool is stable.
For instance,
ceph-deploy disk list <ceph-node>; returns a partial set of
disks, misses a few partitions and returns incorrect
partitions
(for XFS type that aren't listed by parted)
ceph-deploy osd prepare <ceph-node>:/dev/sd{a} returns with
failure sometimes when it's not able to unmount the temporary
/var/lib/ceph/ partition
Executing the command above without the disk zapped sometimes
returns an error while manipulating the partition table for the
disk...
Wonder if there are folks facing similar issues?
Thanks,
Hari
