Were you thinking of using CephFS? If so, be aware that it's not really recommended for production use yet. If you were thinking RBD, that's fine, but you should be aware that you may need to do some tweaking and have a lot of concurrency to get high IOPS. I'd highly recommend testing out your use case on a small scale (maybe a 1 or 2 nodes with a couple of SSDs before diving in head first.
Obviously if I don't want to lose my data I need to have twice has much space that is required so that objects are at least stored twice, is there anything else that I need to pay attention too ?
In a previous job we had some consumer grade SSDs used for Lustre journals. They tended to die pretty quickly, and often in clumps. That was a couple of years ago and consumer grade drives have improved since then, but I'd definitely be tempted to go with the S3700. It looks like a fantastic drive.
