The problem now is when I try to mount /dev/sde1, mount tells me that special device /dev/sde1 does not exist.

Neither does trying to mount /dev/sg4 or /dev/sg5 works, mount says they are "not a block device".

What should I be trying next? Thanks!

Maybe format it with ext3?
