ESX, the performance is very very bad. When I intsall RHES4 as guest

this is the point I am most interested in, what / why is it that RHES4
will work fine and not CentOS4.

Did you use the driver disks for RHEL4 supplied by VMWare ? (for SCSI
drivers)? I think the newest from them is for the stock update 2 kernel
....That is the only reason i can think of ...:(
