I share his opinion, I probably wouldn't have worded it that way though. 
  Lets face it, subscribing to a mailing list takes what, five minutes? 
  If even.  That's minimal effort required in order to have a 
discussion-only mailing list.  I don't understand why some people 
perceive this to be such a huge undertaking.
