Overall ED visits decreased 9% in the first 6 days of the Los Angeles County, California wildfires. Small increases in visits potentially associated with burn- and eye-related injuries were also noted in the first 6 days of the wildfires.
Firefighters had higher concentrations of PFAS (a group of chemicals linked to cancer and other health effects) in their blood 1 month after responding to the 2023 Maui wildfires than the other responder groups.
