The individual filenames included in this distribution contain the publication date (20240522) Release Notes: This release includes updates to all regular vaccine code set files plus updates to the Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) related code files. General Note Regarding this Release: Codes with “Last Update” dates after March 21, 2024, and before May 20, 2024, reflect the changes and additions in this release. This release includes the following code set updates: 1. Trivalent Influenza Vaccines for 2024/2025 Season Influenza vaccines for the upcoming 2024/2025 season will no longer be quadrivalent. Three strains have been approved for the coming year and thus vaccines will be trivalent. This necessitates a significant number of vaccine code updates. CDC has decided to take this opportunity to modernize the Northern Hemisphere influenza codes for both trivalent and quadrivalent vaccines. This will bring all of these codes to the current standard and will provide improved clarity, consistency, and comparability across codes. Code changes related to the transition from quadrivalent to trivalent influenza vaccines for 2024/2025 include: - CVX Codes – Trivalent: Trivalent CVX code descriptions and notes updated for pre-existing trivalent CVX codes relevant to the upcoming season. One new CVX code has been added.
- CVX Codes – Quadrivalent: CVX code descriptions for Northern Hemisphere vaccines have been updated for clarity and consistency across trivalent and quadrivalent influenza codes. Southern Hemisphere vaccines remain as quadrivalent at this time.
- Product Tradename to CVX/MVX Crosswalk
- New product records: Added records for trivalent vaccines anticipated for 2024/2025 season.
- Retired prior trivalent product records: Status changed to inactive.
- Trivalent CPT to CVX: Updated map from CPT to CVX where needed, CPT to CVX map now includes the updated CVX descriptions.
- CVX to VIS: Updated map from CVX to VIS where needed, CVX to VIS map now includes the updated CVX descriptions.
In addition to the code changes above, the following updates have been made to CDC’s IIS Data Code Sets website’s Seasonal Influenza Codes and Crosswalk tables. You can access here Fall Season Respiratory Vaccine Codes | CDC - New Table: “Preview of the Trivalent Influenza Vaccine Codes for Season 2024/2025” anticipated vaccines have been added.
- Updated Table: “Influenza Vaccines for Season 2023/2024 (Northern Hemisphere)” now reflects the updated CVX descriptions.
2. Other Code Set Updates - VIS Edition Status Correction: Document edition status change from “Current” to “Historic” was not updated in 2022.
