I'm on the fenrir-screenreader list and got the information that fenrir
has to be run as root from the developer of fenrir.

Pulseaudio doesn't need to run as a system service with Fenrir. There is a
configuration script that allows pulseaudio to run as more than one user via
a temporary socket. You run the script once as root and again as your normal
user. It does everything for you semiautomatically. Hope it helps.
