Download command for slint on installation page works better this way:
wget -bc --max-redirect=10000 --trust-server-names https://sourceforge.net/projects/slint/files/14.2.1/slint64-14.2.1.iso

Using these switches a file called wget-log probably will be created more about that file shortly. The continue option is also used which means do not give up when a connection is broken. The --max-redirect=10000 option says do not give up with too many redirects either, and the --trust-server-names tells sourceforge.net to put the iso on the user's disk with the same name the user used to download the iso. Sourceforge otherwise has an awful habbit of hiding files users downloaded from it with its own names a user may not find for the next five years with dilligent searching.
Now, back to that wget-log file it's valuable for a user too.
First wc -l wget-log will return number of lines in that file and if a download is continuing, that number will increase.
Second, a command like
tail -3 wget-log|grep -i "saved"
will return a line with saved on it and the size of the file and the filename when the download has completed. None of this used to be necessary with sourceforge in the past but is by now.

Having investigated a little more, I realize that I have to build missing compiz plugins.

I will do that in the coming days and will add a package in the repo that will be install able with slapt-get --install <package-name>

I will report in this thread when it will be done.

Meanwhile I have a question.

I updated and hopefully enhanced the documentation in our wiki built with dokuwiki, like e.g. these pages:
http://slint.fr/wiki//en/start
http://slint.fr/wiki/en/installation
http://slint.fr/wiki/en/accessibility
http://slint.fr/wiki/en/software_management

I am not sure that these pages be as accessible as they should, so please try to read them, including with a web browser like lynx if you use it, and let me know of any issue.

If need be I will provide them in a more accessible format.

Happy new year everybody!

Greetings,

Didier

Hello again,

I just checked that it works as you said in xfce in Slint, using Alt + Scroll mouse button with my current setting.

I have to find out what to add to provide the same feature with mate.

Hello,

I only found option "Make text larger and easier to read". No option for magnifier.

I look for magnifier like xfce desktop has, user Super + Scroll mouse button to zoom in/out entire screen. I believe compiz has the same option.

I am not sure that we have that (yet) in Slint for MATE. If someone indicates a package name or application name or link to some source repository , I will add it.

Didier

Thanks

Hi,

I managed to install slint without trouble. Now I can access Mate Desktop.

I hope someone could help me to enable magnifier. I tried enter keyboard shortcut menu and press the key listed there to toggle screen magnifier (Ctrl+Suprt+N) but nothing happened.

Thanks

?Hi,

?I read the manual and can't find info on how to use it with

?installer.

??Slint64-14.2.1 is released!

??As a reminder Slint is a Linux distribution based on Slackware.

??INSTALLATION

??The ISO image for Slint64-14.2.1 is provided on sourceforge.net:

??To know how to use this ISO image, read:
??Just substitute this ISO's file name to the one indicated there.

??Specific instructions for visually impaired users are provided in:

??Slint can be installed and used without help from a sighted person,
??provided that the computer be set to boot from the installation media,
??DVD or USB stick.

??To update your system after installation, run as as root these
?commands:
??slapt-get --add-keys
??slapt-get --update
??slapt-get --upgrade -s # to check for available updates.
??slapt-get --upgrade # to actually apply the updates.

??FEATURES

??MATE 1.18 is included, as well as Xfce, LXDE and KDE (optional) and
??lighter ones like blackbox and fluxbox.

??Slint64-4.2 is accessible to visually impaired users: it can be
??installed and used with speech and/or Braille both in text mode and in
??several graphical environments including of course MATE.

??brltty is included with brlapi to use your braille device in graphical
??environments through orca.

??espeakup provides speech in text mode, orca in graphical environments.

??The installation of KDE is optional. If KDE is installed, to avoid
??cluttering the application menus of other graphical environments the
??admin can just type hide-kde-apps: the menu entry of KDE apps will
??then appear only in the menu entry of KDE. This can be reverted typing
??show-kde-apps.

??The lightdm and gdm2 graphical login managers are included, both can
??speak with orca.

??To cope with the many graphical environments and login managers and
??alleviate the need of manually editing configuration files, several new
??utilities are provided:
??* orca-on ad orca-off allow each user to enable or disable speech
?and/or
???? braille in graphical environments for oneself.
??* session-chooser allows a user to set the default graphical session
?for
???? oneself, among those available. This can be done by root for a
?regular
???? user with setsession.
??* login-chooser allows the admin to set the login manager, either text
???? (the users can then after login start a graphical session typing
???? startx) or graphical (among lightdm, lxdm, gdm and kdm) and decide
?to
???? have speech or not for login, in text mode as using lightdm or gdm2.

??Most graphical environments get a similar layout of the panels and
??their menus.

??ACCESSIBILITY

??See the document ACCESSIBILITY:

??INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPGRADING FROM 14.2

??Follow the instructions detailed in the document README_UPGRADE
??in the directory upgrade:
??These instructions also apply to testers of a release candidate.

??Note that upgrading from a Slint version earlier than 14.2 is NOT
??supported at all and will most likely not work.

??Alternatively make a full backup, install anew, restore from the
?backup.

??GENERAL INFORMATION

??Slint website: http://slint.fr (not yet updated for 14.2.1)
??Forum: https://forum.salixos.org/viewforum.php?f=44
??Mailing list: http://slint.fr/mailman/listinfo/slint_slint.fr
??Didier: didier~at~slint~dot~fr

??I welcome your feedback and am ready to cooperate with other projects.

??Greetings,

??Didier
