I guess that there is a typo in the line you modified.

If after PREFERRED I append a dot like this:
SOURCE=file:///home/didier/Slint/repo/x86_64/slint-testing/:PREFERRED.
I get the same output as yours.

If I remove the trailing dot like this:
SOURCE=file:///home/didier/Slint/repo/x86_64/slint-testing/:PREFERRED
I have no issue.

Well, maybe slapt-get could be enhanced to fetch the key when running
slapt-get -u
if not yet cached.
This could be requested from the upstream dev.

I will discuss that with with other distribution maintainers using it.
