I think I know how to fix that one as well. What is the name of the actual device being used. Use something like wodim --scanbus as root and see what the name of the device is. If this doesn't work, try cvlc dvd://1 /dev/sr0 and see if that works. The only problem you had here was that the program couldn't actually find the dvd reader.
