re: printing signs from command line

I tried lynx http://localhost:631/printers/ and did some configuration. 
As a result the printer is now recognized at least by cups.  When I run 
pconf_detect -m PPORT -i 0 <enter> though I'm only told that the port 
isn't configured.  What's needed to configure a parallel port under Linux?
