Hi,
Rather than focusing your efforts on a screen reader specific to Linux,
why not make it more portable? It would be really, really nice to have
a screen reader that runs under BSD for example. In many ways, I find
FreeBSD more useful than Linux, especially for servers. I have more
Linux experience, but I noticed that FreeBSD seems faster on older
hardware than Linux 2.4.x. This is just a thought. I know there are
other screen readers out there but I never got them working other than
Speakup and my understanding is that it would be impossible to get a
Linux screen reader to work under FreeBSD because of the kernel differences.

I want to write a user-space screenreader for the console. It would
run as a daemon process. The program would read screen output from
/dev/vcsa.
