If you aren't in any hurry, you can build your kernel during installation. I saved my old lilo.conf and kernel .config and inserted them, modified the lilo.conf and ran make oldconfig and then used make menuconfig to modify further. Just depends on how long you want to take and how complicated you are willing to get.
