DHCP is a separate issue from the cable modem.  Make
sure you have the dhcp daemon package installed: the
Red Hat package contains an example config file, along
with the normal documentation.  The Red Hat manuals
also contain a section on dhcp, locally installed at
/usr/share/doc/rhl-cg-en-8.0/ch-dhcp.html and also
available at redhat.com.
