In fact, you can set up a system-wide fetchmail that will poll a
number of accounts regularly. In Debian this is pretty
straightforward; installing the fetchmail package will ask you if you
want to set up system-wide fetchmail, and you can define the accounts
to be polled in /etc/fetchmailrc following the usual fetchmailrc
syntax. It is quite handy.
