Also, although the error your getting seems to indicate a problem with the php-mysql module, I would check that mysql itself is installed and working. Say 'rpm -q mysql'. And try running mysqladmin.

which i got to know means that the PHP module for apache has no mysql support, but when i look into phpinfo() i get that it was compiled with mysql capabilities... as it should come normally with the installation of RH8.
i really don't know how to solve this... please help
