OTOH I think making backup copies difficult is immoral, and I'm sure
that in some jurisdictions it's legal to do so regardless of the licence
agreement.

People pay for the right to use software. I can't imagine any vendor
actually makes money out of key disks.

Floppy disks are notoriously unreliable storage media.
