[quoted lines by John J. Boyer on May 29, 2002, at 13:25] >I am using the bash shell. You can do the same $WINDOW thing in a bash prompt, and bash also uses the PS1 environment variable for its primary prompt. >It turned out >that screen isn't working after all. When I press control-a and then a >digit, say 4, the message "3* bash" appears and then whatever was on the >screen before reappears. I tried this in a document, expecting that I >would get a shell prompt, but the document just reappeared. You've misunderstood the document. Pressing a digit after ^A is a quick way to switch between existing sessions. If you want to create a new session, you have to do ^A followed by C (create). -- Dave Mielke | 2213 Fox Crescent | I believe that the Bible is the Phone: 1-613-726-0014 | Ottawa, Ontario | Word of God.
