Michael, If you are running under Windows and have a screen reader that supports the graphics, try downloading the Windows "split" command from : http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/ HJSplit has a Windows, a DOS and a Linux version, and it can slice and dice files that are several gigabytes in size.
